Your admission to the pension funds depends on the duration of your employment and your pensionable annual salary. You will generally be admitted at the start of your employment relationship.
The pension funds insure employees against the financial consequences of age-related retirement, invalidity and death. If insured persons leave the pension fund before one of these events takes place, the fund pays out the vested benefits.
As a rule, UZH staff are insured with the pension fund BVK Personalvorsorge des Kantons Zürich.
Holders of junior academic positions, student assistants and resident and attending physicians are generally insured with the VSAO pension fund (see PVO-UZH, § 70 para. 2).
