The International Relations Office (IRO) is responsible for external relations of the University of Zurich and enables a global outlook of all UZH members through different types of activities and engagement worldwide. IRO is the first point of contact for global cooperation and relationship management with partner institutions and different stakeholders from the higher education landscape. It further provides information and advice to international PhDs, Postdocs and academic guests coming to UZH as well as scientists with regard to their international activities.

Our services:

  • Advisory for onboarding processes for international PhDs, Postdocs and academic guests (visa and residence permit, housing, health insurance, family reunification, etc.)
  • First point of contact and coordination of institutional visits at UZH (universities, research institutions, embassies, etc.)
  • Coordination of staff mobility (incoming and outgoing)
  • Coordination of scholarship programs (Iran, North-South, Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships)
  • First point of contact for UZH’s key partners (strategic partners) and int. university networks (LERU, Universitas 21)
  • Support the establishment or advancement of collaboration in teaching and research of mutual interest with int. partner universities and research institutions
  • Provide best practice for explorative workshops with int. partner universities and research institutions
  • Coordination for new Memoranda of Understanding
  • Provide general information on international funding instruments
